ImageThe nominees for the 17th annual James Beard Foundation Awards are out with more than 10 NYC restaurants receiving nominations. The foundation is celebrating its 20th anniversary and once again will be recognizing the nation's culinary professionals with the world's most prestigious award.

The James Beard Foundation Awards recognize outstanding achievement within the fine food and beverage industry.  The Awards honor professionals including book authors, chefs, restaurateurs, winemakers, journalists, broadcasters, and restaurant and graphic designers in the United States. To select the nominees and winners, independent volunteer panels of more than 600 food and beverage pros from around the country vote on specific Award categories.

New York City is considered is the food capital of the nation, so there is no surprise to see many popular and famed NYC restaurants, restaurateurs, chefs and owners nominated for this respected award.

All award winners will receive a bronze medallion etched with the image of the late James Beard, the esteemed chef, cookbook author and food journalist.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the foundation, a group of past Rising Star Chef award winners and nominees will be guest chefs at the May 7 Awards Gala Reception, a walk-around tasting. The criteria for a Rising Star Chef is a chef who is 30-years-old or younger and displays an impressive talent--and who is likely to make a significant impact on the industry in years to come.

Here is a list of NYC nominated restaurants. For a complete list of nominees go to jamesbeard.org.
