A French artist living in New York, Betty K loves her adopted home's vibe, energy and dynamism, but also feels France has some interesting things to share with its American friends, in particular when it comes to painting. So, she had an idea… For many years, she has been friends with two renowned Paris-based artists, Olivier di Pizio and Gonzalo Belmonte of the Ateliers des Beaux-Arts de la Ville de Paris, whose innovative workshop unleashes the creativity, strong emotions, and electric energies of its participants. Like most artists who have worked with them, Betty K thought that they had a unique perspective, and she was eager to bring it to American artists. So she flew the pair in for a special painting workshop, which was held from July 9th-13th. During the week-long workshop, each artist created between one and four works, and will donate one of his or her works which subsequently will be sold to benefit an American children's charity. The resulting paintings, by an equal split of 20 French and American artists, will be in exhibition at the FIAF Gallery from July 15th-27th. Each participant worked with items of personal significance as part of the creative process during the week-long workshop, whose main concept is sharing--with cultural ideas and knowledge flowing between students of different backgrounds. And in a surprising technological turn, the NYC debut of her workshop will introduce a new twist as each artist will be provided with a camera-equipped mobile phone in order to take and upload images while they work to a real-time collective media blog, the first ever mobile generated collective artwork, that will be hosted at mixstudio.cellfish.com.
