Each evening begins with a dance lesson at 6:30 PM for all levels with some of New York’s foremost instructors. Lessons are included in the price of admission. Featuring the kickin’ music of the Todd Londagin Big Band, the contest showcases Midsummer Night Swing dancers. The lucky contestants will be selected during the first set by our professional judges Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin of Dance Manhattan, currently choreographers for the Fox Television series, "So You Think You Can Dance." Through text-message voting, the crowd will judge the final round of this competition that crowns Lincoln Center’s Top Swinger. Things keep swingin’ throughout the week! On Wednesday, July 4th, celebrate the holiday with “Un Tributo a Los Soneros,” featuring the Chino Nunez Orchestra’s tribute to salsa greats Celia Cruz and Hector Lavoe. A cookin’ hoedown of line-dancing and two-step takes place on Thursday, July 5th, with the Big Apple Ranch and Miss Babs & the Kickin’ Boogie Band. And, on Friday, July 6th, Duke Heitger & His Swing Band will get serious swingers rockin’ with their marvelous mix of lindy-hop standards and originals. Capping off the week on Saturday, July 7 is Orquesta Tabaco y Ron, presenting its hard-edged brand of Los Angeles salsa. Midsummer Night Swing presents its 19th season featuring a Mad Hot Dance Contest! with the Todd Londagin Big Band. Dancers will get a chance to showcase their "swinging-est" moves with the hope of being named the best of Midsummer Night Swing on Tuesday, July 3rd. Judges will select dancers during the first set to participate in a Dance Off! competition which will take place during the set break. Audience members will be able to text in their vote for their favorite dance couple once the top five couples have been selected. Winners will receive incredible prizes, and bragging rights! Only Midsummer Night Swing ticket holders are eligible for the competition. The Todd Londagin Big Band will get dancers spinning with their stylish sound. Londagin—the band's leader, trombone player, and sometimes vocalist—as assembled some of New York's best jazz and swing musicians for this ensemble. They are renowned for their gilded interpretations of the swing classics from the 1930s, '40s, and '50s that include the songs of Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, and Ella Fitzgerald. The evening begins with a dance lesson at 6:30 pm. for all levels with John Lindo & Anne Marie McCabe, two of New York's foremost instructors. Lessons are included in the price of admission. The live music and dancing begin at 7:30 p.m. On Josie Robertson Plaza, Columbus Avenue at 63rd Street, adjacent to Lincoln Center's famous fountain.
