Trisha Brown Dance Company dancing "Present Tense" photo credit: Nan Melville Experimentalist Trisha Brown is one of America's most revered contemporary choreographers; at first, she worked with mostly untrained dancers and presented pieces in odd spaces without music. She eventually worked with professionals and entered a "musical cycle," but her works' complexity only accelerated. In Foray Forêt, a collaboration with Robert Rauschenberg, dancers leap into the air, nearly colliding with one another, in a breathtaking sequence dubbed "turnstile." I Love My Robots, with design by Kenjiro Okazaki and set to music by Laurie Anderson, features dancers interacting with two robots onstage. The company's final Joyce program includes a throwback to Brown's earlier years: If You Couldn't See Me, a haunting solo, performed in silence.
