In its fifteenth year, the festival continues to feature the legends of R&B and world music—and the genres’ vibrant and innovative newcomers—headlining ten free outdoor concerts every Thursday from June 4 – August 6. It is not only another complete season of great free live performances, but it continues to break new ground in its artistic scope. For summer 2009, the BAM R&B Festival features another wide-ranging variety of great performers who have never played the Festival before. Included will be classic soul (Lakeside, Kindred the Family Soul), New Orleans funk legends Rebirth Brass Band, new generation R&B (Simone, Anthony David, Toshi Reagon), thrilling Latin jazz (Spanish Harlem Orchestra), top-name contemporary African song and rhythms (Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Rokia Traore), and New Orleans R&B legend Allen Toussaint.
