Brazil's strong musical tradition will be represented by bands performing Bossa Nova, Tropicália, and Forró
Every year, on the Sunday before Labor Day, thousands of green and yellow-clad partygoers descend on Midtown to celebrate Brazil's Independence Day (Dia da Independência, September 7th). Fanning out from the area of 46th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues known as Little Brazil, this year's festival has added five more blocks to accomodate the rapidly growing crowds, giving the party a total area of 18 city blocks.

Starting out 23 years ago as a low-key ethnic block party, the booming Brazilian population in the city (especially in Astoria, Queens) and interest in the country's fun-loving, vibrant culture means that these days, more than 1.5 million revelers celebrate Brazil's independence from Portugal with upbeat entertainment and nonstop activities on two stages.

The Brazilian Day Festival is attended by a multitude of Americans who love Brazil and its culture, as well as people from all nationalities who share the love of music and good times with their Brazilian counterparts, making the Festival a truly multi-cultural event.

The festivities include traditional Brazilian food, drinks, art and handcrafts. There will be two stages for entertainment offering exciting live Brazilian music and dance all day. Performers on main stage at 43rd Street and 6th Avenue include Jota Quest, Bruno e Marrone, and Asa de Aguia. The energetic group of musicians, percussionists, singers and dancers is sure to drive the crowd wild!
