Artist Jon Kessler will sign copies of his new catalog "The Palace at 4 a.m.," published by Charta, as well as "Drawing Papers 72, Jon Kessler: You Have 43 Friends," an artist's project published by The Drawing Center on the occasion of "Jon Kessler: Works on Paper," on view in the Drawing Room through October 25th, 2007. Limited edition, hand silk-screened copies of "Drawing Papers 72" will also be available for purchase.

Kessler's "The Palace at 4 a.m.," a dizzying array of hundreds of monitors, surveillance cameras and miles of electric and video cable, simultaneously turns the viewer into voyeur, exhibitionist, spectator, and surveilled subject.

Mechanical sculptures rigged with cameras create live video feeds that the viewers experience in real time. Magazine images, toys, and other found objects recombine to mimic, expose and subvert the horrors and hypocrisies of the war in Iraq and Hurricane Katrina, as well as life in a culture addicted to an overly saturated media experience.
