After their initial meeting on tour in Europe in 2000, Parisian cellist Vincent Courtois and New York saxophonist Ellery Eskelin sensed that they had the beginnings of an important collaboration at hand. The pair had an immediate musical connection, but needed a third player to fill out the sound.

Since both men were admirers of Swiss-born pianist Sylvie Courvoiisier, now a Brooklyn resident, they asked her to join and she quickly accepted. The trio was formed in 2002 and immediately began playing their original compositions, as well as a series of completely improvised concerts. The group's big debut was at the prestigious Banlieues Bleues Festival in Paris, and since then, they've toured Europe several times.

Their current swing through the U.S. is an attempt to expose American audiences to their eclectic music, and a preview for the new album that they expect to come out in 2008.

This is only one of many exciting, avant-garde music events being held at Roulette. Check out roulette.org for more information on upcoming shows.
