Davy Mooney placed 3rd in the Thelonius Monk International Jazz Competition
New Orleans native Davy Mooney, a jazz guitarist and vocalist, has had a very eventful musical life. In September of 2005 he was the only resident of Louisiana to participate in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Guitar Competition, performing with Teri Lyne Carrington, Chris Potter, Bob James, and James Genus before a panel of judges that included John Pizzarelli, Bill Frisell, Russell Malone and Pat Martino. Mooney advanced to the finals of the competition and placed third overall, winning a $5000 scholarship. Mooney then made his way to New York, where he has been residing among a small community of displaced New Orleans jazz musicians in the Astoria area of Queens. Recently, Mooney made a duo guitar recording with one of the judges of the Monk competition, John Pizzarelli, which will be released in early 2007. Performing with Mooney are John Ellis on tenor saxophone and Matt Clohesy on bass.

William Ash

William Ash has appeared on TV on "The Guitar Show" and WKCR and WQXR Radio
William Ash started guitar at age 9 and when he was 12 and heard the Wes Montgomery Trio play "Round Midnight" and "Missile Blue" (from the 1059 Riverside record with Mel Rhyne and Paul Parker) it turned his head around. In subsequent years Ash had the opportunity to play with now deceased jazz greats Junior Cooke, Jack McDuff, John Patton, Bill Doggett and Bobby Forrester. He has also performed with Buddy Montgomery, Joey Cavaseno, Cecil Payne, Roy Hargrove, Rodney Jones, Jimmy Ponder, Ronnie Cuber, and Arnie Lawrence with Brad Mehldau and Larry Goldings. The liner notes for his tribute to Wes Montgomery, written by Dr. Herb Wong, characterize Ash as "simply a beautiful young player whose powerful Montgomery tradition comes shouting with validity." William has had guest appearances on WKCR and WQXR Radio and also appeared on TV on "The Guitar Show." Performing with Ash are Jared Gold on organ and Yoichi Kobayashi on drums.
