Camilo was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in 1954 and composed his first song when he was five-years-old. He studied for 13 years at the National Conservatory and became a member of the National Symphony Orchestra when he was 16-years-old. For nearly 25 years he has traveled the world performing in huge arenas, historic concert halls and intimate jazz clubs. Charles Flores began his career in Cuba with the Cuban jazz/vocalist Bobby Carcasses. While playing with Carcasses, he was recruited by pianist Emilio Salvador, one of the key figures in the history of Cuban jazz. For the next three years, Charles played and toured throughout Europe and Latin America with Salvador and his quartet. Flores joined the Michel Camilo Trio in 2001 and since then has been traveling and performing throughout the most important jazz venues of the world. Dafnis Prieto's revolutionary drumming techniques have has a powerful impact on both the Latin and jazz music scene--locally and internationally. Prieto studied music at the school of Fine Arts in Santa Clara and later in life at the National School of Music in Havana. Not only is he a classically trained musician--but he also broadened his own knowledge of other genres such as Afro-Cuban, jazz and world music outside of the academy. Prieto moved to NYC in 1999 and since 1995 has been a member of the NYU Music Faculty. |
