The mini-fest starts on the evening of September 6th at 7:30 pm with a series of excerpts from upcoming operas (such as "Tosca," "Candide" and "Falstaff") featuring the company's talented soloists, orchestra and chorus, conducted by music director George Manahan. The event will be followed by a party for the whole audience on every level of the theater with a performance by The East Village Opera Company. Then, on September 7th and 8th (at 8 pm), two of the most beloved operas of all time, "La Bohème" and "Don Giovanni," will be performed back to back--complete with special video introductions that help explain the plot, characters, and history of the work. The New York City Opera's regular season starts off with "La Bohème"--presented in the normal fashion--on Sep. 9th, with performances running through Sep. 29th. Critics agree that no one does "La Bohème" quite like City Opera. Filled with familiar songs and beloved characters, Puccini's classic story of love and art has delighted audiences for generations. Based on the legend of Don Juan, "Don Giovanni" is a study in contrasts, with Mozart’s sublime score belying the hero’s moral bankruptcy. Performances begin on Sep. 13th and run until Oct. 12th.
