According to Jazz tuba legend Howard Johnson, Souter is a musician who not only has the voice of a natural born singer but also the lyrics to “make her stand out from the pack.” Souter is a late-comer to singing professionally, and yet, has the confidence and soul of a seasoned professional. She first worked as a journalist and freelance writer before moving to New York and sitting in on jazz jams getting involved with the Blues scene. In 1998 she won a scholarship to New York's Manhattan School of Music, which she left to study privately with jazz vocal legend Mark Murphy who is now her trusted mentor. © Danielle Martino 2007 |
