Tessa Souter, the next up and coming jazz vocalist
British-Caribbean jazz vocalist Tessa Souter will be appearing in Quintet at the Jazz Standard on October 22nd after returning from her successful debut at the Jazz Bakery in Los Angeles.  Though Souter is relatively unknown at the moment, her unique musical instincts ensure that won’t last for long.  Souter takes jazz to a whole new level, imbuing classical jazz with the spirit of Flamenco, Indian and Middle Eastern musical roots.

Los Angeles Times hails Souter as “One of the most imaginatively programmed vocal sets of recent memory."  According to Jazz tuba legend Howard Johnson, Souter is a musician who not only has the voice of a natural born singer but also the lyrics to “make her stand out from the pack.”

Souter is a late-comer to singing professionally, and yet, has the confidence and soul of a seasoned professional.  She first worked as a journalist and freelance writer before moving to New York and sitting in on jazz jams getting involved with the Blues scene. In 1998 she won a scholarship to New
York's Manhattan School of Music
, which she left to study privately
with jazz vocal legend Mark Murphy who is now her trusted mentor.
