The Whitney Museum's 8th Annual Family daySeptember 29, 2007 from 12 pm-4 pmrecommended for children ages 5-12 FREE! Whitney Museum of American Art 945 Madison Avenue at 75th Street 1-800-WHITNEY whitney.org ![]() A proud mother looks at her son's creation on paper at the last Family Day ![]() One lessons you'll learn at the Whitney is that art isn't just for kidsâits something that the whole family can enjoy Test your little Warhols' creative minds as they discover how Rudolf Stingel goes from small to tall and back again with his "paintings," using weird and wonderful materials. Younger children can create HUGE works of art with contemporary artist and book illustrator Wade Zahares. His strong lines, bold colors and dazzling perspectives distinguish Zahares' larger-than-life pastel paintings. Both a fine artist and a children's book illustrator, Wade's work includes large-scale commissions by Boston Duck Tours, Bank of America, HBO, and Family Circle and Sesame Street magazines, as well as the illustrations for six books - his seventh due to be published in 2009. Wade works exclusively in pastel; he is drawn to the intimacy of the chalk and the ease with which he can blend colors. And finally, explore all things big and small with artists Ellen Moynihan and Carol Tessitore from the art collective House of Malcontents. House of Malcontents is a Brooklyn-based art collective finding its inspiration in the possibilities of transforming mundane, everyday spaces in New York, and seeing what happens next. Due to the guerilla, non-permit-seeking nature of their work, it is uncertain how long the installations will remain intact, and how bystanders will receive them. The city of New York is as much a collaborator in their projects as the individual artists are. So if you're looking for an activity for the whole family, head over to the Whitney on September 29th, for a free afternoon of art, learning and fun at one of New York City's finest museums! {mos_ri}
