Keane ![]() Set in 1950's rural Ireland, 'Sive' tells the tale of an orphaned schoolgirl forced into an arranged marriage with a rich and lecherous old man. A gut checking depiction of a sexually charged world, 'Sive' scandalized audiences at it's Irish premiere in 1959. The first of Keane's plays, 'Sive' is populated with traveling tinkers, bitter housewives and meddling matchmakers. John B. Keane published 46 works in his lifetime, was a founding member of the Society of Irish Playwrights and paved the way for modern Irish playwrights. The Irish Repertory Theatre pays homage to the great writer by premiering his show in New York and beginning their twentieth season with the first play in his body of work, 'Sive.' Opening to glowing reviews, this is not a show to miss. 'Sive' strikes a chord deep within, grinding to the gut and felt in the heart. |
