A dark comedy about the perils of life, love, sex, death, and frozen pizza in suburban Maryland. In the spring of 1990, new college graduate Bernie Morton returns to his home in Cherry Hill, a subdivision of a Maryland suburb stuck between DC and Baltimore. As Bernie rekindles his obsession with a troubled former beauty queen and finds comfort in his old job as a part-time movie theater usher, he assumes that the lives of his family and friends haven't changed much. But before long, the altered existences of his childhood friend Judd, of Judd's quirky girlfriend and his newly widowed mother, and of Bernie's government lab employee father come to light. In the entire world, few names can conjure up such powerful images of beauty and sensuality as "Cleopatra." Although many in Egypt wanted to fight the Roman invaders, Cleopatra realized the futility of such an action. Rather she wanted Egypt to become part of the Roman Empire, enjoying its protection, while remaining a power in its own right. This required her to form an alliance with Julius Caesar (using her own body as collateral). Soon after Cleopatra saw her protector cruelly snatched away, she found new opportunities (and love) in the arms of Marc Antony. With sensual romantic melodies, blues-rock beats, Latin rhythms and reggae, Cleopatra - A Life Unparalleled transports the audience to a time where the major form of news was gossip and innuendo; where centers of power were hotbeds of jealousy and death; where marriages were often only for convenience; and where nations made war against their neighbor simply because they could.
