LaS Company Presents Innovative "Beethoven Live"Oct. 28-Nov.3Tues-Sat at 8 pm Sun at 7 pm Post-performance Oct. 30th Admission: $20 (general admission), $15 (students/seniors) Performance Space 122 Downstairs Theater 150 First Avenue (at E 9th Street) tel. 212.352.3101 ps122.org Choreographer Kristina Lhotáková and director-sound designer Ladislav Soukup, co-founders of the Czech dance company LaS Company, present "Beethoven Live." "Beethoven Live" is an unusual documentary that combines theatre and dance into a streamlined whole. Interestingly, this piece does not feature expertly trained dancers; rather, it exemplifies ordinary, every-day people exploring the world around them and the irrevocability of nature. Judging from the brief description, reminding us that this piece "involves a family, a few guests, assorted farm animals, and a badly behaved dog, I think we can expect a fairly innovative and unprecedented piece. Who knows what this piece has to do with Beethoven, or if it does at all, but regardless, there is no question that the documentary exploration will reveal several different facets of metaphorical and literal existence, while grappling with social issues and striving to maintain what is essentially Czech culture. Broaden your horizons by attending this enigma of art. The piece will be running October 28th through November 3rd. ©Danielle Martino 2007 |
