"The Heart has a Mind of Its Own" is the story of Lieutenant Brian Murphy, NYPD, who died when the Towers fell on that tragic morning. Three years later, truth and memory blur as his family continues to struggle with their grief and rage. Though their hero's shadow still looms large, it cannot obscure certain inconsistencies that force the family to come to terms with the enigma of Brian.

Playwright Larry Kirwan is also the front man for NY's Irish house band Black 47. Their fan base is made up of a cross section of New Yorkers from cops and firemen to your buttoned-up Wall Street types, who all have been drawn to the band for the past 20 years. On that fateful day, Kirwan and his band lost many friends and fans. The Saturday after those events, Larry and Black 47 returned to play their normal gig at Times Square's Connelly's Pub offering a bit of normalcy to a hysterical time. Set several years after the towers fell, "The Heart has a Mind of Its Own" is by, for, and about New Yorkers.

Kirwan has also written a series of plays that have been produced in the U.S. and Europe, five of which were published in the book "Mad Angels" (1993). In 1998, he released his first solo album, the children's collection "Keltic Kids." "Kilroy Was Here," released in 2001, was his first solo album for adults.

Cailin Heffernan (director of "The Heart has a Mind of Its Own") For Boomerang: "Anna Christie", "All For Love", "Beyond The Horizon" and "The Substance of John" at CenterStage as well as the "First Kisses" benefit production at the Lucille Lortel.  She has directed and/or choreographed Off-Broadway as well as regionally throughout the U.S. Most recently, Cailin directed "Suddenly Summer" at Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor which will further be presented in the upcoming NYMF. She directed the highly successful production of "Tilt Angel" at New Jersey Repertory and Penguin Rep's smash production of "Stones in His Pockets".  Cailin is a member of SSDC  and the League of Professional Theatre Women and was a member of the Actors Studio Playwrights/Directors Group.
