David Cale, whose credits include the films "Pollock" and Woody Allen's "Radio Days," has been writing and performing in New York since the early 1980s.
Almost two years after the storm, New Orleans residents (those who have been able to return) still suffer from the ravages of Hurricane Katrina. Houses remain untouched wrecks, public services have not been fully restored, and government money remains largely undistributed. Even as the plight of Hurricane Katrina victims recedes from the public consciousness, hundreds of thousands of people remain displaced.

In order to help, several New York City performers have come together, including writer and performer Stacyann Chin who will headline in "There Has to Be a Way: A Common Ground Cabaret," on June 4, 2007, a cabaret-style benefit at the Playwright Horizons' main stage to raise money for Common Ground Collective (CCG), a group doing Huricane Katrina recovery work in New Orleans.

Performing at the cabaret besides Chin will be Obie Award-winning David Cale; musicians Adam Rapp, Paul Sparks, Ray Rizzo, Michael Chernus, and Rob Beitzel in their alternative music group called Less the Band; Andrew Boyd who is the co-founder of the satirical political campaign "Billionaires for Bush, and many more.

CGC's projects include running free health clinics, offering free legal counseling, and providing free house gutting. Currently, CGC has assisted more than 50,000 New Orleans residents.

Besides the performances, there will also be a silent auction featuring pieces donated by artists from around the country and a free cocktail hour.
