What better way to cap off a day of exploration in Times Square than by watching an exciting new musical that chronicles the neighborhood's history and reputation for making stars, all while enjoying a hearty buffet dinner?
Now that dream is a reality with "Times Square The Musical"--a new production at Sofia's Restaurant Downstairs Theater on West 46th Street. The vivid songs and orchestrations of veteran arranger/lyricist/composer John Dentato are performed by a young and vivacious cast--giving this fully-staged production the energy of a top Broadway musical, while retaining the intimacy that only an Off-Broadway theatre such as Sofia's can provide.
"Times Square The Musical" is the story of a young singer, Elaine, who comes to New York to seek fame on Broadway. Her journey takes her to The Booby Hatch where she gets her first break from the owner of the club, Brady, who has inherited the nightclub from a rich uncle. Brady soon finds that he has not only discovered a great new talent but that he may be falling in love as well.
This is the story of people following their dreams and searching for love in the crossroads of the world--New York City's Times Square.
Composer John Dentato is a product of the New Orleans Navy Band, road and pit bands--whose songs have been recorded by Connie Francis, Joni James, Frankie Laine, Dean Martin and others. He was honored to have worked in the MGM music department for over 14 years. Dentato's musical score for "Times Square The Musical" is inspired by the great song writers of the past century and his love of classic Broadway musicals. In addition, this production will feature original choreography by Issac Dayley.
