If you’ve been to an Adrian Alicea fashion showcase before, then you already have an idea what I’m talking about. This is no regular ten minute stride down the runway. No, this is a theatrical event. It’s a production and the mood and tone of the show is pulsating as soon as you walk into the venue. The theme of the Fall 2012 show was “Strange Fruit” and the feel of it was dark, Vampire like and very rich in drama. Think back to Aaliyah in Queen of the Damned to really get a visual what Adrian was trying to portray. His execution was flawless. His Haute Couture line is so unlike others that I have seen. The models didn’t prance down the runway in the normal order. They came down the steps of the Cathedral slowly and dramatically, assisted by the shirtless men in barely anything that danced around enticingly toward the beginning of it all. The music was beating slowly and in sync with the models' sway and intensity. Adrian's amazing gowns were long and sexy, goddess-like, daring and strong in every way. The models were decked out in feathers and lace, crushed velvet and long and elegant gloves and make up that made you stare and clap…simply in awe at the time and creative artistry that had gone into designing the clothing and the show itself. Mouths were covered with black tape, as were ears. Dark and rich colors and hues like black, grey, navy, burgundy and deep blue decorated the runway. Every intricacy was covered and I was proud and honored to be there, taking it all in. Adrian is an exotic designer and visionary who began his career as a model, strutting down the Parisian catwalks. Although raised in NYC, he was exposed to Haute Couture level fashion at a young age, which is how his collections are inspired and how they are executed. There is nothing off the rack-ish or mainstream about him; not in any way. Learn more about Adrian and the man behind the mystery, the artistry and the perfection that comes to life through his designs. I have an interview set up to learn more about him and I can’t wait to share it with you guys!
