With the spring 2012 New York Fashion Week already finished, New Yorkers are sure to find this year’s spring go-to trends very versatile. As the verdict for the spring fashion is in, this season is a looker for both clothing and accessories. Understated pieces, sportswear, and elegance are trends from this seasons fashion shows; they are sure to be seen walking the streets of New York City soon. We all have encountered a time where we’ve searched and tried on every article of clothing available in our drawers and closets; yet seemed to never have anything to wear. A time where clothes fit too loose, too tight, or just didn’t look good at all. Now you’re stuck in a rut because the season of spring is almost here and your closet has yet to be upgraded to the most recent trends and/or current “popular” items. You see, trends aren’t made by someone else; they’re made by how a person situates their clothing, items, and accessories together, making them “trendy.” The best way to look and feel trendy is to start off small. Starting with something as simple as wearing accessories will make and/or break an outfit; it will add pizzazz to a dull or thrown on outfit. Items such as chunky bracelets, dangling earrings, big floppy hats, and vintage glasses can all be worn to better an understated outfit. Each accessory, whether its color coordinated with your outfit or not, can change the look and a viewer’s perspective. You’re either met with many “oohs and aahs” or can be given scorned looks, so choose your accessories wisely. Accessories can include and not be limited to shoes; no one wants to look at a perfect outfit and look down to see run down, old dirty shoes. Just like the best outfits are inexpensive, shoes don’t need to be expensive to look “fashionable.” In fact, not only do affordable shoes happen to be the most stylish, it will in the end save you money to grow your shoe collection. Wedges have recently been the new “in” item; it’ll give you some height and flare to your outfit, yet still feel as comfortable as flats. Ranging from casual to elegant, wedges come in all styles and heights; it is extremely fashionable and versatile in women's footwear. They can be worn with flowing skirts, shorts, the bohemian style, and wrap dresses to name a few. Colors! Yes my favorite of trends, colors are the first and greatest trend for spring. With the welcoming of the new spring color being “Tangerine Tango”, a shade of orange; there’s nothing better than mixing and matching every color plausible. This trend is called color blocking, color blocking is when a garment or outfit is composed of infinite blocks of color; just that, wearing blocks of colors. For the most part this is what we do anyways when we dress, but this spring “color blocking” will be seen in an exaggerated version. To get the color blocking look you want to go for bright and bold colors while engaging in a mix-and-match color theory each time you put an outfit together. Color blocking must be done with a maximum of three colors, more and you’ll just look like a walking rainbow. If you want to go with a more subtle way of color blocking, sweet sorbet shades and pastel hues give off a low-key, ladylike vibe. With very diverse lifestyles, emotions, and cultures, colors reflect these different perspectives; vivid brights, soft muted tones and fun-loving pastels to name a few of the popular color trends. Thinking outside the fashion “box” has been the popular of trends. Nothing is greater than pulling off an outfit with items of clothing, many people would never think twice of wearing. If you’re feeling tired of classic patterns like plaids, stripes and polka dots, then spring 2012’s futuristic-print trend is for you. Statement pieces such as techno-print pieces, pixelated prints, and swirling graphics will have more heads turning towards you, rather than away from you. Last but certainly not least, put aside the spring trends and focus on one of the most important things when it comes to your style and looking your best; knowing how to dress for your body type. Dressing for your body type will ensure that you are looking great no matter what. It is all about finding the current trends and making them update your wardrobe, while transforming and flattering your figure. It’s important in this era to create trends on your own this spring rather than try and copy an already made trend from seasons before; remember, simplicity is key.
