Since all he's done are horror films ("Music of the Heart" notwithstanding), he isn't expected to be able to so. Yet the first third of this film is indeed romantic comedy. Hotel executive Lisa Reisert (Rachel McAdams) is running late for that final flight back home on the redeye, from Houstan to Miami after her grandmother's death. At the airport she meets one Jackson Rippner (Cillian Murphy). If this were directed by anyone else, we'd be expecting love to have blossomed by the next act. But this is Wes Craven, director of "Nightmare on Elm Street," Jackson matter of factly mentions that he's an assassin and the tone of the film changes abruptly. It's that kind of surprise that makes this sort of B-film one of the best of its kind this year, and Craven's best since the first "Scream." Both Murphy and McAdams are going to be one of the big stars of the second half of the decade—especially because they do play against type.
