It takes place all summer long, from June to September, at various locations throughout Lower Manhattan such as Pier 17 at South Street Seaport, Battery Park, and the World Financial Center. All types of events are featured this year--from concerts to dance, theater, film, food, historical events, as well as talks and readings.Wildly diverse and always FREE, the River to River Festival has grown steadily in its six short years, bringing cultural vibrancy and some much-needed revitalization to Lower Manhattan. By removing the barrier of concert admission, and by holding events at popular, mostly outdoor venues, the festival is able to bring in a large number of spectators from all walks of life. And for the first time, this year's River to River Festival is taking large steps towards environmental responsibility--with recycling and less wasteful forms of printing and power generation--and the festival aims to be a carbon-neutral event. Below is a list of our highlighted concerts during this summer's River to River Festival. June 1 - 7:00 pm Animal Collective South Street Seaport, Pier17 ![]() Animal Collective ---![]() Roky Erickson Roky Erickson and Alejandro Escovedo Castle Clinton National Monument Castle Clinton will host an incredible evening of outdoor music featuring two rock 'n' roll masters.Roky Erickson is one of the genre's most unsung heroes, influencing an entire generation of artists through his seminal psychedelic work with the 13th Floor Elevators. Now this music pioneer has returned to touring, and River to River will proudly host his only NYC appearance this summer. Roky promises to deliver an unforgettable evening of fierce, emotional, hard-rocking electric blues. Alejandro Escovedo is as good as contemporary music gets. He is widely acclaimed for the incredible breadth of his musical vision, deep emotional expression, and the sheer musicality of his work. Playing with a string quintet, Alejandro promises to captivate his audience as he fuses Latin, punk and alternative country rhythms. Two free tickets per person will be distributed at the Castle on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 5:00 pm on the day of the show.
