McCarren Park Pool Parties Every Sunday from June 9-August 19, 2007
  Superchunk is an indie rock band from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, consisting of singer/guitarist Mac McCaughan, guitarist Jim Wilbur, bassist Laura Ballance, and drummer Jon Wurster.  Man Man is an experimental rock group from Philadelphia. While performing, they do not take breaks in order to keep their enegery constant.  Blonde Redhead is an indie rock band consisting of Kazu Makin and Italian twin brothers Simone and Amedeo Pace.  Ted Leo and The Pharmacists are an American rock band formed in 1999 in Washington D.C. On Lorimer between Driggs and Bayard Avenues thepoolparties.com Throughout the hot and humid summer months, cool off at the McCarren Park pool. Okay, so the 50,000 foot refurbished ruins of a pool that hasn't been filled for more than 25 years isn't exactly refreshing--but the 27-ft inflatable slip n' slide is--and the same goes for the music from some of the coolest bands and DJs from Brooklyn and beyond. On July 9th, the series' first concert, grab a towel and work on that tan before the bitter temperatures of winter are bestowed upon us. Or, burn some calories and shape up for the bathing suit weather while pogoing or playing dodgeball in the waterless pool. And of course, what goes fits in better at a pool parties than burgers and beer? Sponsored by JELLYNYC, the weekly summer concerts are free, but a portion of proceeds--drawn from conccessions, sponsorship, and onsite donations--go to Sens Production, a non-profit organization who reopened the space in the summer of 2005 and received raving reviews for their "Agora" dance performances. Proceeds from the event are given in the hope that the Sens Production team will turn the once public pool into a community cultural center for all of Brooklyn and NYC. JELLYNYC is an inter-media collaborative based in Williamsburg, Brooklyn who throws parties, curates concerts, books and manages bands, makes movies and everything else in between.
