Now in its 13th year, New York's biggest jazz festival brings another incredible lineup to town for shows all over the city from June 17th to the end of the month. The JVC Jazz Festival, founded in 1984, takes place at 28 venues throughout the city such as Carnegie Hall, Blue Note, The Town Hall, and Iridium Jazz Club.

This year's diverse lineup leads off with some incredible pop-oriented acts such as legendary diva Patti LaBelle and upcoming star India.Arie (coincidentally, both are two-time Grammy Winners). The bird and the bee, a semi-psychedlic indie-pop band from Los Angeles share a bill with Cesária Évora, a singer from Cape Verde who sings traditional songs of mourning and is gaining high acclaim from the world music scene.

The strict jazz-only fan won't be disappointed however, as classic and modern jazz are well-represented by a slew of today's top artists and legendary performers.

Among the performers are pianist Marian McPartland (with special guests, in a tribute to Jimmy McPartland), sax players Branford Marsalis and Joshua Redman in a double bill, an 80th birthday concert for Eartha Kitt, a 70th birthday party for legendary bassist Ron Carter (with Herbie Hancock and others), Groove Collective, the Ravi Coltrane quartet, and the always entertaining banjo jazz of Bela Fleck & the Flecktones.

Visit the official website for a full listing of concerts, special events and for tickets. The schedule of performers is below.
