![]() free internet in times square at the price of a brief advertisement CBS Corp., plans on utilizing Times Square, and its high concentration of traffic, to offer free internet at the price of a brief advertisement. Users will be able to connect for over 20 city blocks, extending from 42nd Street to 60th Street at Central Park South, encompassing the areas of 6th Avenue to 8th Avenue as well. "What better way to show we are committed to turning our Outdoor assets into next-generation interactive platforms than providing free Wi-Fi service in what is arguably the busiest stretch of real estate in the world?" said CEO of CBS Outdoor, Wally Kelly. Kelly announced the ambitious creation of CBS Mobile Zone, the high-speed wireless network that will connect most of midtown Manhattan. The campaign is also a part of a trial for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), which plans to utilize practical applications of the technology, such as updating passengers of train and bus schedules. Depending on where they are located in Times Square, users will have the nearest billboard projected onto them as they access the internet. Like many things in cyber space, the ads simulate the experience of walking through the bright lights of 42nd St. What will they think of next to create a vitrual experience online. © Michael Kang 2007 |
