"There may be no better way to form a quick acquaintance with the New York contemporary dance scene than to spend an evening at the DanceNOW [NYC] Festival." - The New York Times

"Find your artistic crush." - DanceNOW [NYC]

Whether you're a seasoned dance-goer or have never seen a dance performance, the DanceNOW Festival is the way to experience the brightest, hippest, smartest, sexiest and most stunning hip hop, theater, pointe, and contemporary dance companies in NYC today. DanceNOW’s 15th Anniversary Celebration presents over fifty choreographers who honor DanceNOW’s past, present, and future direction.

2009 marks the 15th anniversary season of the DanceNOW [NYC] Festival. In celebration of our grass roots evolvement from the tiny ‘DanceNOW’ program during the annual Downtown Arts Festival into one of NYC’s most comprehensive presenting arts organizations we are bringing together seventy-five choreographers in three different downtown venues that will honor our past, present and future direction. The festivities kick-off at our home base at Dance Theater Workshop, where we have been focused exclusively since 2005, from September 8 through 12.

Five specially curated events will feature fifty choreographers and their companies, presenting 4OUp and Base Camp artists alongside of our Raw Festival discoveries to offer a glimpse into our history which has provided threshold opportunities for many of today’s most exciting and innovative dance makers.  At the end of September, DanceNOW will venture, as part of its new partnership with FAB! and DMAC-Duo Multicultural Arts Center to Fourth Arts Block, to offer a lively and energetic in-door/out-door program for the annual FAB! Festival & Block Party.  October 22 through 24, DanceNOW will wind up its anniversary celebration at Joe’s Pub where it created the Dancemopolitan series in 2003 as part of the annual DanceNOW [NYC] Festival.  Ten to twelve artists will be featured in a Live Music and Text Series.
