Selecting the best of roughly 200 productions from nine countries, the FringeNYC Overall Excellence Awards were announced in a small ceremony on August 26th held at The Village Theater.
The just-concluded Festival, which included theater, performance art, dance, children's theater, spoken word, puppetry, and multimedia, has been the launching pad for the Tony Award-winning musical "Urinetown," and the popular "Debbie Does Dallas," "Silence!" and the musical "Walmartopia."
In addition, a number of these plays ("Lights Rise on Grace," "Piaf: Love Conquers All," "Bombs In Your Mouth," "Paper Son," "Hillary Agonistes," "Naked in a Fishbowl," "Riding the Bull") will be having a second run as part of the FringeNYC Encore Series. [Read more here].
The awards were selected by an independent panel of over 60 panelists--and were announced at the annual Fringe Fest closing party held at the Village Theater.
