"Nosferatu: The Morning of My Death" is up for several nominations, including best direction and best new play
The Midtown International Theatre Festival, which recently completed its Eighth Annual go-round, is pleased to announce the beginning of what they hope will be a yearly tradition - the MITF Awards - honoring excellence for Festival participants in 27 separate categories. The winners will be announced at a combination Award Ceremony/ MITF Closing Night Party on Sunday, September 9th at the Zipper Tavern.

"After doing this for eight years, and seeing some fantastic productions, we figured out it was about time to start having an award ceremony," John Chatterton, executive director of the MITF explained. "Receiving recognition for your work is an important thing, and we wanted to say 'well done' to the participants this year and hopefully some of these productions will have the chance to move on to the next level." {Click here for our interview with John Chatterton}

Open to all who would like to attend and support the festival nominees. There will be a cash bar and full menu available to all attendees. The awards ceremony will begin at 6:30pm.

Serving as point person for the MITF awards is Glory Sims Bowen, one of the Festival's artistic directors. "Having an MITF award ceremony has been in the back of my mind for the last year or so," Bowen noted. "John and the rest of the MITF staff loved the idea and it was just a question of logistics and timing to be able to make it a reality."

The nominees were selected by the various members of the MITF staff who voted via a point system and taking into account the number of shows each staff member saw.  When voting for the actual winners, voters must abstain from any category where they did not see enough of the nominees. Winners to be Announced on September 9.

Two special categories, The Producers Award for Excellence and the MITF Congeniality Award, come with cash prizes.

A complete list of nominees follows:

The Producers Award for Excellence

This is an award given to the plays that sold the most tickets in each of the four venues where the MITF took place this year: the WorkShop MainStage and Jewel Box spaces, Where Eagles Dare, and Stage Left Studio. Each award comes with a cash prize, ranging from $50.00 - $300.00, and is presented by MITF Executive Director John Chatterton.

Congeniality Award

Voted on by the Festival Staff, this Award is given to festival participants who excel in congeniality before, during and after the festival process.  Criteria includes efficiency, flexibility, tact, and professionalism. The award comes with a cash prize of $250. Presented by MITF Managing Producer Emileena Pedigo.
