ImageWorking out while on vacation may seem like a daunting task, but Sane Fitness' "QuickStart Deck" is portable and offers various workouts that can be done in a gym, on the beach, or in a hotel room.

Invented by working mom and business woman Beverly Caen and fitness expert John Cruz, the 36 color-coded workout cards aim to target the entire body through cardio, weights, ab and stretching exercises. The deck features six weeks of full body one-hour workouts on easy-to-follow portable cards to keep the body guessing.

"While it is important to enjoy a little rest and relaxation on vacation, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is a 24-hour job," says Caen. "Being dedicated to your fitness goals while traveling can make the difference between gaining or losing those few pounds that have been nagging at you."

The fitness duo wanted to make working out not only effective but simple and easy to use. And most important-to make sure it required the minimal amount of equipment (an exercise ball, mat and dumbbell set).

Sane Fitness' "QuickStart Deck" acts as a sort of fitness trainer in a box and provides several tips on how to exercise while on vacation, sans free-weights.

The "QuickStart Deck," is available through sanefit.com or on amazon.com.

Below are some tips from the "QuickStart Deck" on maintaining your health while on vacation:
  • Fill up two 16-ounce water bottles to serve as one-pound dumbbells.
  • Use jumbo-sized shampoo and conditioners which can weigh up to three pounds each--just make sure to have an equal amount in both sides.
  • Bring a resistance band in your bag. Most of them take up almost no room, and resistance can be adjusted to meet your weight needs.
  • If your hotel lacks a gym, 20 minutes of continuous swimming in the pool will burn about 250 calories.

  • Use the stairs--spend 20 minutes going from top to bottom. Walking will burn about 100 calories while running can burn as much as double that amount. Another smart idea is to skip the escalator in the airport. Adding in extra stair stepping throughout the day will burn calories gained while snacking on the go.
  • Walk everywhere--the best wat to stay in shape while away from home is to stay active. Take a scenic stroll instead of using the bus or subway. Walk as much as possible and not only will you shed unwanted pounds but you'll keep your fitness levels up-so you don't have to start from scratch when you get home.
  • Allow yourself to indulge--as long as you are healthy about it. Avoid hidden calories by drinking water, banning butter, and eating good foods in moderation.
  • Booze Control--Most alcoholic beverages pack about 150 to 300 calories per serving. To cut back on calories opt for a glass of wine or sip on diet cranberry juice and club soda instead of sugar-filled margaritas and exotic drinks.
  • Add veggies--Ask the restaurant to subsitute steamed veggies for fries or other starchy sidekicks. Not only will you be eating healthier, you'll feel less "stuffed" and ready for the days activities.
  • Save the flavor--Studies have shown the slower you eat, the less you eat and the more satisfied you feel.
